Exciting news! In honor of her remarkable adaptability, positivity, commitment, courage and flexibility, we are thrilled to honor our 2023 Resilience Award Winner: Kelly!!!! At the age of 16, Kelly entered foster care and eventually aged out. Kelly moved to Georgia with her family after her adoptive mother passed away. Today, she is a mother of two: a 3-year-old, and a 5-year-old. Despite being raised in the system, moving frequently between homes, group homes, transitional homes, friends’ homes and more, Kelly has remained humble and maintained an emotional flexibility that deserves respect. Kelly firmly believes in staying around positive people. Last year, she was matched with a wonderful Mentoring Family. One of her mentors also grew up in the foster care system and understands what it’s like to feel unseen and undervalued. At the beginning of last year, Kelly was homeless. With a lot of hard work and a positive attitude, Kelly finally secured her own apartment. As she works to regain custody of her children, she is now stable and excited that she will soon be able to host them for overnight visits. Kelly is incredibly brave, with a big heart and a strong desire to be successful. She received a promotion at work and is working hard to thrive. What a joy it is to celebrate Kelly’s remarkable strength and resilience! Please join us in congratulating Kelly!!!! … (Please note: Names and images in this story were changed to protect confidentiality.)
